The Government General Hospital, Madras, attached to the Madras Medical College is the largest teaching hospital in South India. It also comprises of five other hospitals catering to the medical and surgical specialities. The casualty department at the hospital, was the busiest in the region, catering to a population of over two million people.

The Victoria Hospital attached to the Bangalore Medical College is the largest teaching hospital in the state of Karnataka. Along with The Bowering Hospital it was the premier surgical institute in the region. It offered excellent training and research facilities.

The Church of South India Hospital is a teaching hospital with 325 beds, attached to The Christian Medical College, Vellore. The hospital was designed and built with German help and run by protestant missionaries. It offers excellent clinical care with humane approach. The surgical firm was very busy with tremendous emergency work.

The Huddersfield Royal Infirmary is a 525-bed District General Hospital in West Yorkshire, United Kingdom. The Urology department had 30 adult urology beds, beds available in paediatric wards and the 5-day surgical ward. The surgical unit at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary had a complement of 60 adult surgical beds, beds available in paediatric and a 5-day surgical ward. Being adjacent to the Motorway it catered to many road traffic accidents. It offered an extremely busy surgical rotation.

The Royal Free Hospital and School of Medicine is one among the leading medical institutions in the world. The Dept. of Nephrology and Renal Transplantation at the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust had seven beds in the renal transplant unit and 17 beds in the Nephrology ward. The unit also had beds available in the general surgical wards. The department also undertook renal transplantation at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for children. The department was involved in numerous pioneering research work in transplantation and immunology.

The Urology department at the Royal Free Hospital had 17 beds with complementary beds available in paediatric, private and day case wards. It was a busy department encompassing all subspecialties of Urology.

Amalgamation of two medical institutions and hospitals of Guy's and St. Thomas's led to the formation of United Medical & Dental School of Guy's & St. Thomas's. Under the Division of Surgery a new Minimally Invasive Therapy Unit headed by Mr. JEA Wickham and Prof. Lord McColl was formed. The department was closely involved in research into Robotic Endourological and Percutaneous Surgery.

The renal transplantation unit at Guy’s hospital is one among the busiest in the UK. Around 150 adult and paediatric renal transplants were done in a year. It has a very active live transplant programme and also does pancreatic transplants. 
 

The Central Middlesex Hospital is a large district general hospital in Northwest London. It had a new and vibrant urology department which essentially functioned as an autonomous unit. It offered in depth and wide training in urology with particular focus in stone work and oncology. Urology teaching and training was heavily focussed with regular multidisciplinary meetings.

The Institute of Urology, London attached to the Middlesex Hospital and University College of London is one among the premier urological institutes in the world. It is world-renowned for it’s clinical and academic activities. Eleven consultants and numerous juniors, staff the urology directorate. It is a tertiary referral department with every urological subspecialty catered to. Innovative surgery and technologies are researched. It has strong molecular and clinical trials research units. The institute conducts numerous urological training courses and symposia which lead to higher degree awards.

The Whittington Hospital is a unique composition of a teaching hospital in a district general clinical environment. It provides a wide range of primary to tertiary care with a plethora of renowned clinicians. The urology department is extremely busy with a primary focus on minimally invasive surgery. It  has very close community care links with numerous shared care programmes.
